AAW Ranked Tops in Macomb County

You may have seen the recently released “Top-to-Bottom” ranking of all of Michigan’s schools.  Along with the “EdYes” grades and “AYP”, this is another way to measure our public schools.  Well, the rankings were released on Friday, and AAW has a lot of which to be proud!

Arts Academy in the Woods ranked in the 87th percentile of all Michigan public schools for student achievement and improvement on the list released on Friday.  AAW is also the highest ranked Macomb County high school on this list.  Additionally, AAW received an overall “B” in the latest “EdYes” evaluation, and has made AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) for three years consecutively.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, we have to remember that there are many ways to measure a school, and no one set of statistics can tell the entire story about what we do.  For example, the formula for creating this list may change next year, and we may plunge in the rankings.  Additionally, we still have a number of internal goals which we want to reach, like integrating creative thinking into all of our instruction, and creating authentic performance and exhibition opportunities for our stuents.  And we also don’t want to forget the importance of our unique, excellent art programs and all they bring to our community.

However, today is a day for celebrating our accomplishments!  Teachers and students at Arts Academy in the Woods have been working diligently for over 5 years to increase the academic achievement of our graduates, and this ranking validates that work.  Congratulations to all the AAW Teachers, Staff Members, Students, Alumni, Parents and Supporters for doing the hard work necessary for AAW to earn this recognition.  Well done!

Sincerely,
Max Spayde
